"My Clock Just Needs Cleaning"

Myth 1: For many clocks, cleaning of the movement will not solve the problem of it not running or chiming. Proper cleaning and oiling is an important maintenance process, however the majority of clock problems are related to wear and broken parts. With an inspection of the movement the Clock Doc can inform you of the exact problem.

You can't wind a clock too tight! Mainsprings need to be wound completely to get the full time period of operation. If it's completely wound and will not run down, it is indicative of other problems. Often, if there is substantial pivot hole wear in the plates, a fully wound mainspring will push the gear pivots tightly into the worn grooves, resulting in no operation. If a spring breaks, it’s due to a weakness, not being wound too tight.

Often a clock will run long after the wear begins, and when it stops running, the wear can be considerable. Call our professional today to get a FREE estimate on your grandfather clock services to ensure that it will run for years to come.

Many clocks that come in for repair were purchased 25 years ago or more. The value of a clock may help you decide if you want to repair it, but has no bearing on the repair cost. When you're looking to get your clock fixed, call us today for quality grandfather clock services at affordable prices.
